more about the classes

Homesteading is all about self-sufficiency and what I refer to as my Thrival course.  Producing your food, raising animals, preserving food, living off the grid, crafting, engineering and running a small business.  With homesteading, you do it all and more.  Learn about where ethical food comes from ranging from the soil to the plate!  I promise you this course will be a blast and you and your children will feel more secure about what the future holds.  –Satisfies some Physical, Earth, Life, Physics, Biology Education State Requirements

Survival is all about staying out of harm’s way in troubling and difficult circumstances.  Learn about the skills of shelter building, water discovery/purification, fire formation, food, navigation, signaling, and more within a multitude of environments whether urban or austere.  Children will also learn through practical application about leadership, teamwork, situational awareness, safety, and problem-solving through stressful times.  Though this course sounds serious, students will oftentimes have more fun than any traditional classroom can offer.  There will be storytelling and games throughout the course that will help foster concepts learned.   -Satisfies some Physical, Earth, Life, Physics, Biology Education State Requirements

Movement & Games From ancient times to the early 1900s physical education focused on body mastery through movement in all manners, not just sports.  In this course, movement is primarily taught through calisthenics which focuses on strengthening the body through body weight.  Children will also work on skills that are essential to life and sports such as balance, hand-eye coordination, endurance, agility, strategy, and mobility.  This class will be both fun and challenging.  Fun in that children will see the benefits of positive change and experience how good it feels to move.  There will also be games the early pioneers enjoyed on the prairie that are just good old-fashioned fun!  The challenge will come from doing things that are meant to push them as life is difficult and worthwhile things are always difficult.  -Satisfies Physical Education State Requirement EC Section 51241

Holistic Health (HS Level) is designed to give students a working knowledge of some of the most important things related to health.  Throughout the course students are challenged to critically think and evaluate how the pillars of health exist in their own lives.  After this class students should be well equipped to tackle most things when it comes to their individual health goals.  Food for thought, health is a journey and not a destination. -Satisfies most Health Education State Requirements

Small Group Training (JH & HS level) In this course students will focus on functional training which replicates the movement patterns needed for the everyday life of a healthy human and advances to work needed in critical situations.  This is a great way to get students prepared for professions (e.g. first responders, military, etc.) that require more out of a person.  It is also a very great way to get in amazing shape and be ready for anything life will throw out at you.  Don’t be intimidated by the description, as I train students where they are and move them to where they want to be!  -Satisfies Physical Education State Requirement EC Section 51241

Meet Your Fury and Feathered Classmates

Meadow

Super Sweet girl who thinks she’s a dog.  A2 Jersey who will give tasty milk to anyone… including a goat!

Miss Kitty, Pepper & Honey

Miss Kitty, a Nubian who is the Matriarch of the bunch.  This girl is stubborn, curious and very loving.  Pepper and Honey are energetic little girls who love to have fun everywhere they go… and even places they are not supposed to go.

Mable

This girl is a White Chinese Goose who is extremely broody and helps keep our chickens safe.  If she’s on an egg she’ll let you pet her; otherwise, she’s very elusive.

The Babas

The Babas are a collective term for the multitude of sheep we have.  They got their names from my son Shepherd when he was a baby.  Some are old, some are babies (lambs), but they are all Dorper sheep.

Storm

This girl is my little shadow.  Any where I go she’ll be close by.  At night she keeps the animals safe and she does a great job of it!  Hardest worker on the farm!

The Hens

These ladies are many and we love their beautiful multi-colored eggs!  We have Bardrocks, Buff Orpingtons, Silkies, a Naked Neck, Polish, Leghorns, Australorps, Black Copper Marans, Americanas, and many more.

The three Amigos

These Chinese Ducks go everywhere together.  They were meant for meat, but they happen to be hilarious and lay lots of eggs… so we kept them!  They sure do know how to make a mess though.

The Honey Bees

These little ladies are amazing workers and produce soo much honey.  Still getting the hang of them but we love them!  As long as you keep your cool around them, so do they!
